The incident was first called in around 9.30am after a smell of gas was detected outside.
Crews from Doreen, Mernda, South Morang, Wollert and Yarrambat attended, with the Mernda captain stopping the incident around 12.30pm.
No evacuations were necessary however specialist equipment was required from the gas company, prolonging the length of the incident.
