The league will host a 'CFA Round' to raise money for fire brigades in its area, including Buxton, Narbethong, Alexandra, Belgrave, Selby, Gembrook, Macclesfield, Sassafras and Ferny Creek, Emerald, Glenburn, Hoddles Creek, Yarra Junction, Little Yarra (Powelltown), Upwey, Wandin, Warburton, Wesburn Millgrove, Hillcrest, Mt Evelyn, Yellingbo, Gruyere and Seville.
Initiated by the Macclesfield CFA Fundraising Group, members Bernie Blair and Fiona Spencer, said the event was a great community partnership for the organisation that would raise much needed funds for Yarra Valley brigades.
“The league has been very supportive and enthusiastic of the idea, which will hopefully eventuate into an annual event,” Fiona said.
“CFA brigades rely on fundraising events such as this to continue providing its services to the community and I think this is also a fantastic way to show that we are also a part of the community and more than just a fire service.”
As part of the CFA Round, brigades will attend YVMDF&NL Division 1 games: Healesville v Emerald; Woori Yallock v Mt Evelyn; Wandin v Upwey Tecoma; Warburton Millgrove v Monbulk and; Gembrook Cockatoo v Olinda Ferny Creek. Brigades will also be present at Division 2 games: Yarra Glen v
“As well as tin rattling we are planning other activities such as the ‘CFA Player of the Match’ at all games and CFA appliances will also be on display”, Bernie said.
“It’s a great opportunity for people to not only have a great day out with family or friends supporting local footy, but to support local brigades and volunteers who work tirelessly to protect lives and property in their communities.”
Yarra Valley Mountain District Football and Netball League CEO Stephen Walter said the initiative was a wonderful partnership between two community based, not for profit organisations who both worked to deliver a quality community service to the residents of the Yarra Valley and Mountain district areas.
“The YVMDF&NL congratulates Bernie and Fiona (Macclesfield Brigade) for their initiative and we are confident that the ‘CFA Round’ will become a permanent fixture of the YVMD&FNL season,” he said.
