In early July, Liz Langford and Lisa Keedle from Community Development are running a Community Fireguard Facilitator training course in the Yarra Valley. Course participants come recommended by CFA Regions with some 30 people put forward this year.

This course involves indoor and outdoor activities, case studies, group work and classroom discussions. It aims to provide participants with an understanding of the Community Fireguard program and its key messages; teaching how to effectively facilitate group discussions and engage group members with hands-on learning.

The second part of the course will run towards the end of July with participants completing an assignment in the interim. Those who successfully complete the assessment at the end of the course will gain the ‘Facilitate ongoing group development’ competency.
