Firefox Internet Access Problem

CFA staff using the Mozilla Firefox browser may be having issues accessing the internet following a Firefox update on December 17th 2009.

The recent patch causes an issue when trying to navigate through the CFA proxy, thus they are not able to view external sites.

Two resolutions have been tested and found working:

1/ Install Internet Explorer 7 or 8– which has the tabbed browsing and full functionality of Firefox.

2/ Uninstall Firefox and reinstall version 3.5.5 (or roll it back if you can).

CFA's IT department only supports Internet Explorer.

If you require us to install Internet Explorer 7 or 8, give us a call at the IT Helpdesk on Ext:8207, and we can do that for you.

Why not support Firefox? It is at least as popular as Internet Explorer, more reliable, takes up much less space on hard drives (important for laptop users) and is easier to use. Those of us who use it could easily feel like we are second rate citizens if we took your comments to heart. I am running the latest version - downloaded today - with no problems.

Firefox support

It time you really caught up with the times and support Firefox a far superior product than Microsoft and more popular.
To only support one Browser is wrong I'm sure the Royal Commision would also say the same thing?

I'd like to add that if you've chosen to uninstall Firefox 3.5.6 and keep using Firefox 3.5.5, it is important that you go to Tools > Options > Update tab, and uncheck "Automatically Check for Updates to: Firefox". Otherwise it will re-update itself daily.

By the way, this conflict only affects staff using the browser from within the corporate firewall. It is not an issue for general public accessing CFA websites or CFA members using Firefox outside of CFA HQ or the CFA network computers. Firefox *is* a supported browser for the design and functionality of all CFA websites.

Then why make a comment like "CFA's IT department only supports Internet Explorer"

3.5.7

FYI, unsupported Firefox users:

Those of you who recently experienced the inability to gain internet access after updating to Firefox 3.5.6, the new update, 3.5.7, seems to fix the issue.

You can try to update and continue using the browser (alongside Internet Explorer, of course!)

Good news, albeit very small and un-fire-related for the tail-end of your Monday.
