Fire at Lake Hume power station

CFA has assisted NSW Fire and Rescue and NSW Rural Fire Service to extinguish a blaze in a power generator at the Lake Hume Power Station in NSW.

The fire was contained to the generator and power isolated around 1730 Sunday 14 October allowing crews to commence firefighting operations. Firefighters worked throughout the night and spent Monday 15 October cooling the damaged asset.

11.48pm Update from CFA Station Officer David Brown via Twitter (@CFA_Brownie):  Nearly midnight and fire @ Hume Weir power station is still burning well.

Please get the facts correct this fire was at the transformer located at the generator site??

Reply to John Turner: I also heard it was the switchyard transformer on fire. Remember the flood at the "Kerang Power Station" -- widely reported as such in all the media, when in fact the asset at Kerang is a terminal station on the long route to Mildura. The Hume weir fire is very close to the (hydro-electric) generator, Kerang is 100's of kms from the nearest active power source!! Australia needs more science graduates in journalism.
