What is Fight Free February?
Fight Free February (FFF) began in 2011 with the first of what was imagined as an annual campaign. The brainchild of CE Family Lawyers partner Jane Libbis, the motivation was a desire to see people become better equipped to deal with (and negotiate) difficult events including family breakdown.
The aim of FFF is to start a movement of individuals committed to finding other ways to resolve what could turn into a fight with partners, kids, colleagues, or anyone.
www.fightfreefebruary.org does this by asking individuals to make a pledge for a fight free month and promoting practical tips (sourced from counsellors, psychologists, mediators and lawyers) about different ways to resolve conflicts in lots of different settings.
So why is CFA promoting it?
We’d like a more harmonious CFA, it’s that simple. We know that conflict in the workplace or in the home leads to stress. And we all know that stress can cause mental and physical illness.
What do I need to do?
1. Visit the website www.fightfreefebruary.org and register your email address to receive daily conflict resolution tip delivered to your inbox.
2. Pledge your commitment – talk to your family, friends and colleagues in CFA about the concept and follow the tips on making February a conflict free month.
3. Take the quiz. Find out your conflict resolution style by taking the quiz on the website. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/fightfreefebruary . If you know you’re style it will help you manage conflict better.
Getting help
If conflict is causing significant problems in your life, seeking help is a good way to address it. CFA’s Welfare Services program may be the first contact point for people who are concerned about the conflict in your life. Remember, any CFA member or immediate family member can access Welfare Services at any time.
Welfare services are short term in nature. Members with long term clinical or complex needs will be linked to appropriate services where relevant, such as internal services (WorkCover or Volunteer Compensation) and external community based agencies.
- Peer support can be accessed through the Regional Duty Officer, Officer in Charge, Line Manager, the Peer Coordinator or via the CFA Welfare line (ph 1800 628 616)
