A factory fire in Kitchen Road, Dandenong South was called in at 1.43pm on Saturday afternoon (10 December).

Eleven CFA crews attended the incident (approx 40 firefighters).

Dandenong's aerial appliance (Ladder Platform), together with rescue unit, 2 x pumpers and tanker responded with additional units from Hallam, Carrum Downs, Frankston and Patterson River.

The fire involved a factory that produced chemical liquids for retail sale and staff were working at the time of the fire. Staff evacuated when the fire couldn't be contained and 000 were notified. No injuries were reported.

Senior Station Officer Devenish from Dandenong said his crews were very aggressive in their initial attack of the fire and contained it to the mixing area, saving the office, laboratory and storage areas. This also greatly reduced the risk of the fire spreading to neighbouring factories. Despite these efforts approximately 70 per cent of the factory was affected by the fire.

The fire was declared under control at 2.23pm. Crews will remain on scene into the evening to ensure any hot spots are fully extinguished. EPA organised crews to clear contaminants from the drains.

Operations Manager Trevor Owen was Incident Controller.
