CFA's emergency social media platforms have been highlighted in an article in The Age about the risks and opportunities of online communication.

The article tells the story of Katrina Chambers, one-time contestant on reality TV show The Block.

"(Katrina) had plans for her anniversary this year. Her sister was coming to town to look after the kids while she and her hubby had a night out.

"Then the waters came and covered her home town of Wagga Wagga. There was no way in. There would be no visitors, so date night was in peril.

"We know about this incident because Chambers, an avid blogger and Twitter devotee, was among those that chronicled the flood's development blow by blow. As a technophile and something of a local celebrity, she felt well placed to update her community as the flood approached."
