As the fire trucks arrived on scene, smoke was billowing out of the building. As the trucks came to a stop everyone got out and the BA wearers geared up and went in to rescue the juniors.
Jo (a junior leader) came running out of the smoky haze screaming ‘my babies!! All of my kids are in there!’, followed by Kelly (another junior leader and senior fire fighter) screaming ‘Help! There are kids in there!’
A water point was set up and a first aid triage area was formed. The juniors were carried out one at a time, many had ‘passed out’ or were ‘semi –conscious’, they were taken to the triage area and assessed.
The BA wearers cleared the rooms and the ‘job’ was wrapped up. We then had an assessment of the exercise and thanked the Juniors for their assistance on the night.
On Saturday 22nd May at the Endeavour Hills shopping centre the Junior fire brigade partnered with Endeavour Hills Westpac to set up a fundraising sausage sizzle. Westpac Endeavour Hills have taken the Emerald Junior CFA as their fundraising project. The junior members went throughout the centre with leaflets to let people know where the sausages were available.
We maintained a steady stream of customers all day. With the help of Westpac, Bakers Delight and Tenderfresh Meats we sold 20 kgs of sausages and several dozen cans of drinks making the day an incredibly fun and successful day for the Junior Fire Brigade.
