It has been a very busy 48 hours for the Melton Fire Brigade, with a number of major structure fires occurring within their area.

James Newton of Ballarat, husband and father of three young children, returned to Beaufort in early April to thank the local firefighters who saved his life back in December.

Just after 10pm last night (12th April), several 000 calls were made from concerned residents in Grey Street in Darley, after they spotted smoke and flames issuing from an old brick factory.

The historic Kingston Fire Brigade yesterday celebrated a centenary of incorporation and service to the local community.

A Total Fire Ban (TFB) has been declared in the South West District for Thursday 15 March.

Communities from the Shires of Ararat, Hindmarsh, Horsham, Pyrenees, West Wimmera and Yarriambiack are invited to review and comment on their town’s draft Municipal Fire Management Plans and Township Protection Plans at community consultation sessions being held throughout March and April.

CFA and DSE crews will remain on scene overnight patrolling a grass fire which burnt into forest near Blampied, north of Ballarat.

The first being a motor vehicle accident in Griffith Street, Bacchus Marsh, with one person trapped, and the second a structure fire that kept them busy for most of the morning in Darley.

Old fire hoses donated to the Werribee Open Range Zoo are a hit with the dancing gorillas.

The Centenary year for Bacchus Marsh Urban Fire Brigade was capped off recently with the presentation and award for Community Event of the Year at the Moorabool  Shire’s Australia Day Awards Ceremony on Thursday 26 January 2012, in Ballan.
