MANDY Lake has scaled glaciers in North America, paddled down the picturesque Franklin River in Tasmania and parachuted out of an aeroplane.
She has taken teenagers on white water rafting expeditions and supervised high country hikes involving students from Tintern Girls School and Geelong Grammar’s prestigious Timbertop year nine campus.
And in her latest role as a professional firefighter with the Country Fire Authority, the 30-year-old has added state sporting champion to her growing list of achievements.
Competing at the Victoria Police and Emergency Services Games over the past four years, Mandy has collected an impressive haul of 12 cycling medals: nine gold and three silver.
At the recent 2012 games, she won the women’s road race and time trial, then teamed up with fellow Bendigo firefighter Dale Stemmer to take out the mixed pair X-Terra duathlon – a rogaining-style navigation event involving both running and mountain bike legs.
