Chief talks PPC tomorrow night

Tomorrow night’s chat with the Chief may be the biggest yet, with members keen to discuss Personal Protective Clothing and Personal Protective Equipment.

A high volume of questions have already been sent through to onlineforum@cfa.vic.gov.au to be answered by the Chief during the online Q&A session.

THE ONLINE Q & A WILL BE TAKING PLACE IN THE WINDOW BELOW

The session will be replayed in the window above so you can access all the questions and answers at a later time on CFA Connect if you happen to miss the session.

Questions received so far include:

The withdrawing of the “Black Coat” for fire fighting activities raises a couple of issues – a replacement garment for warmth (for members that don’t currently have a black coat) especially for night time activities and an intermediate protective garment that sits between the structure gear and the wild fire gear for use at structure fires that have a potential for high radiant heat etc. but are externally fought. Could you provide an update on the current position and also on what may happen in the longer term?” – Barry Planner.

Is there a plan to modify either the new hand-held radios or the Structure Gear, in order for the radios to be carried and protected efficiently? The new radios do not fit in the current layout of pockets/straps. It appears strange that the compatibility of radios with the expensive structure gear appears not to have been assessed prior to purchase and rolling out” - David (Volunteer at Bannockburn).

I was curious to where CFA is at with the rollout or future rollout of new station dress for Volunteers. Are there any plans to still change the dress uniform patch? If so do we all adopt the same patch as staff or are there plans to update?” - Johnson Travis.

Will the CFA be adopting the MFB's Rosenbauer HEROS-xtreme helmet as a replacement structural helmet? Or will CFA continue to use its current model?” - Timothy Hughes (Manangatang Brigade).

Was it just me, or could others not post comments during the discussion?

Hi Wayne,
There were over 55 questions posted and unfortunately we couldn't get through them all in the hour, so some weren't posted. Given the high level of interest in the topic, we'll look at running a follow-up session later in the year.

Kind regards,
Jessica
