Stuart is quite a competitive runner in his own right, not being shy to challenge someone to a second coupling in the Straight Sixes and Straight Eights events, a branch under pressure in the Champions Fours or even a hydrant in a Pumper event.
Stuart is also well regarded for his leadership and mentoring skills – bringing the best out in individuals whilst being a fair and ethical ambassador of the sport, leading by example with wisdom and integrity. His mentorship of many younger runners has contributed significantly to the longevity of the sport.
Stuart’s peers and fellow competitors endorse and support the Australia Day Council and EDFBA Executive’s decision to award this medal to Stuart.
