More than 2000 people are expected to attend the Junior State Championships at the Horsham Racecourse and an anticipated 800 CFA brigade members will compete in teams against each other in simulated firefighting events.
Championships committee president David Hornsby said it would be the first time the competition would be held in Horsham.
“Horsham is a brigade with 65 operational, 49 non-operation and 13 junior members. It’s a great opportunity for other CFA members and the community to come and see what the brigade has to offer. We’re looking forward to a big weekend,” Mr Hornsby said.
“Events like the championships are more than just about competition. They are an opportunity to network, meet new people, share experiences and learn from one another.
“The championships are also a great form of training, particularly for the juniors, who are our volunteer firefighters of the future,” he said.
All events involve basic firefighting equipment – hoses, hydrants, couplings and branches. There are 18 individual and team events, ranging from a hydrant race to a wet hose event.
Off field, CFA on Display will be in the corporate marquee where members can learn about home and bushfire safety at the Fire and Emergency Management’s interactive house displays, which will have real-life fire risks in a real-life setting.
Information on volunteer and community safety programs will also be available, as well as free health checks, Nintendo Wii Fit, CFA merchandise for sale, youth and juniors scavenger hunts, the latest CFA social media and more.
