The rollout has been extended because of a number of internal and external factors and should allow for brigades to make a smoother transition. According to Deputy Chief Officer
“After consultation with regional management teams we also had to consider things like the implications for our operations officers who already have heavy workloads, and how the changes will affect the voting rights of each member,” Mr Ellis said.
“The extension will also mean that resources such as the Brigade Manual and Brigade Model Rules will be finalised and available to brigades to use throughout the transition.
“It will give us more time to consider the overhaul of the Resource Management System as well as work through the implications of the recent corporate restructure.”
The transition period for brigades has also been extended from the original 24 months to a period of 48 months.
“While the bulk of brigades will transition to the new models of membership and classification within 24 months (by 2014), we felt that extending the window to 48 months would allow a more considered approach for brigades requiring extra support,” Mr Ellis said.
“We’ll be contacting each brigade that participated in the initial trial to advise of the changes, and it should not affect the day-to-day running of their brigade.”
The next milestone for the project will be the distribution of brigade transition packs to operations officers and brigade BMTs in July.
