Toddler rescued from lift

Emergency services last night worked together to rescue an 18-month-old boy hanging from a lift well.

Just after 8.00pm yesterday, firefighters of the Dandenong CFA were called to a building in Thomas Street, Dandenong, where they found the boy hanging in between the lift well and the lift.

Initially, CFA crews made access through the lift’s emergency manhole, to discover the child was hanging six metres above the ground and was being held by his father’s hand through the open lift door.

Dandenong CFA Acting Station Officer John Katakouzinos said firefighters formed a human chain, passing the child up to the roof of the lift and then back down to the waiting arms of his father.

You can hear John interviewed on 3AW Breakfast below.

“All agencies worked well together to assure the safety of the child,” Mr Katakouzinos.

“Fortunately, the young boy was not injured.”
