“The new $250,000 fire stations are a great facility and include a dual bay shed to store the fire truck, equipment, hold meetings, train and maintain members’ dignity,” Minister Ryan said.
Mr Ryan also recognised the contribution of both brigades during the Black Saturday fires.
“Members were actively involved with the Churchill/Delburn fires, the fires in the Devon North and Yarram area, Napier Road Won Wron fires and numerous other local responses.
“Binginwarri Fire Brigade was first registered on 5 March 1943 then merged with Jack River Brigade on 1 July 2007. They now have a combined brigade membership of 44.
“Carrajung Brigade was first registered on 15 February 1943 and now has a membership of 29. The Carrajung community was directly impacted by fire on Black Saturday. This was an enormously testing time which has taken its toll on people.”
CFA Board member Robert Spencer also recognised the benefits of the new fire stations, the significant contribution each brigade has made to the community and the need for a well prepared fire brigade to help protect life and property.
Jack River Captain Gus Hughes and Carrajung Captain Graeme Hurrell each welcomed VIPs, guests, and brigade and family members to their respective official openings.
Each captain thanked the local community and brigade members for their support, and recognised the convenience of now having a toilet at these new fire stations.
CFA Gippsland Regional Director Mark Reid and Acting Operations Manager Len Scheetz both acknowledged the valued contribution of families who keep things going at home while CFA members are away with the brigade.
