Recent media outlets have reported that on 17 May 2012, the bushfire class action arising out of the February 2009 bushfire at Beechworth was settled. This class action was brought on behalf of people who suffered loss or damage as a result of the Beechworth bushfire against defendants SPI Electricity Ptd Ltd (SP Ausnet), Eagle Tower Travel Services, Parks Victoria and the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE).
CFA was not a party to this legal proceeding.
