On Sunday 3 June 2012, Baranduda Rural Fire Brigade members and their families got together for an awards presentation lunch to recognise and celebrate the outstanding service records of several of their members.

Joining the brigade at the Baranduda Fire Station to help celebrate was Wodonga Group Officer Colin Coyle, Deputy Group Officer Terry Darmody, Bonegilla Captain Brian Church, and David Brown, Andrew Shultz and Sean Murphy from Wodonga Urban Fire Brigade.

Operations Officer John Bigham gave a summary of each person’s service history and performed the official award presentation duties (welcome back John). The combined service of the 21 members receiving awards was a staggering 452 years, ranging from 5 to 55 years of service.

The outstanding service of the following members was recognised: 55 years service - Ken Bowran. 50 years service - Robert Schubert. 35 years service - John Dows. 30 years service - Rosalie Dows. 25 years service - Jocelyn Bowran, Trish Bowran, John Gay and Peter Hunter. 15 years service - Robert Graham, Jason Hadson, David Merbach and Leo Whyte. 10 years service - Paul Allwood, Pat Barnes and John Crawford. 5 years service - Mark Goldsworthy, Peter Mansell, Wayne Marshman, Gary Reid, Scott Schilling, Leon Simpson, Gary Wattie and Peter Williams.

As brigade captain with a mere 10 year service medal, it is an enormous honour to serve CFA and the community in the company of those in the above list, and also the remainder of our members who were not recognised today.

We are an extremely fortunate brigade to have those at the top of our list, with service of up to 55 years against their names, still very active within the brigade and in responding to incidents.

Thanks to all for helping to make it a great day and a great brigade to be a part of. Paul Allwood, Captain, Baranduda Rural Fire Brigade.
