Auskick fire against Bayswater CFA

More than 70 eager Auskickers have again defeated 18 Bayswater CFA volunteers in firefighting gear in their 'no holds barred' game of Auskick footy at Bayswater North Primary School on Sunday, 24 June.

For the past three years Bayswater Fire Brigade members have swapped their fire hoses for a footy in an attempt to build stronger links with the community and, in particular, primary school children.

After two humiliating defeats for the firefighters, last year the kids managed to hold on for a draw.

This year the firies again fell short by a couple of points.

“Facing 91 one kids in footy gear, some of them Collingwood supporters, is far more frightening than fighting fires,” Bayswater CFA member Geoff Stewart joked.

“They were just too good on the day. Next year is definitely our year”

Bayswater North Auskick Centre Coordinator Jackie Jordan said the Auskickers always looked forward to beating the firefighters.

“What better way to build links with our local firefighters than a good old game of footy?” Jackie said.

“Auskick and CFA are both volunteer groups with strong links to the community.”

The firefighters have vowed to settle the score next year.
