2012 World Firefighter Games

Thursday, 05 April 2012

From 19-28 October this year, Sydney, and Fire & Rescue NSW, will play host to the 12th World Firefighter Games.

This year’s event is expected to attract up to 10,000 competitors from around the world.

The games are open to all full-time, part-time and volunteer firefighters (including military and aviation firefighters), paramedics, volunteers from the State Emergency Service and, for the first time, members of Surf Living Saving Australia.

There are more than 70 events to choose from, so whether you are interested in traditional sports like swimming, athletics, triathlon, or rugby, or want to try your hand at something less conventional like dodge ball, paintball, darts, ten pin bowling, the ‘fire truck challenge’ or the ‘fire house cook off’, there is definitely something for everyone. And of course, all firefighters are eligible to take on the ‘Toughest Firefighter Alive’ event – the blue-ribbon event of the games.

Currently there is an early bird special offer. Until 9 April, you can register for the discounted rate of $170, a saving of $50.

What does your $170 get you?

  • Entry in up to three (3) categories – note that events like swimming and athletics count as one ‘category’ and you can enter as many events within that category as you like
  • Free entry to the World Firefighter Games Village at Pyrmont Foreshore, which will feature nightly events including live bands and performers, fireworks displays, restaurants, bars and competitors’ lounge
  • Free entry into events like the ‘Amazing Race’, Dragon Boats, the Bucket Brigade and many others

There will be some additional events hosted at the Games Village, which will have a cover charge. More information will be available on these events in the coming months.

The games are open to family members (who are over the age of 18), so get your wife, husband, brother, sister, son or daughter involved too. For anyone that just wants to be part of the fun and atmosphere, a pass for the Games Village can be purchased for $50 (free entry for children of competitors who are under 18).
