As we all know the Kinglake community was devastated by fire one year ago, this affected everyone in the community as well as the Kinglake Fire Brigade and its members.
We remember those that are no longer with us and remember our experiences and what we went through on that day and the following weeks and months.
The past twelve months have not been easy for the brigade as 12 of our members lost their homes on Black Saturday, others had damage to their properties and all lost people that they knew.
Despite all of this the members have continued the duty to provide fire protection to the community and surrounding areas. We have stuck together as a team and helped one another out at different times during the year. The brigade has been much more than just a fire brigade over the last year.
The brigade has continued to look to the future with the purchase of a new Ultra Light Tanker, which has been funded by donations from the local community, businesses, organisations and people from all over Australia.
We thank all those people that have given us support during the past twelve months and are continuing to provide support to our brigade and members. It is during times like these that communities really pull together and we realise how generous and useful we can all be.
As a brigade we know we are part of a larger family in the CFA and other firefighting agencies right across the country, who came to our aid during February and have continued to support us emotionally and physically.
The Australian community and businesses have supported us greatly, whether it be a letter of thanks, encouragement or donations, and we appreciate all the support.
We especially have to thank all the kids out there who raised money at schools or gave up their pocket money for a week to help out. All those letters and cards have helped our members continue on and we hope some of the kids will one day become future firefighters.
The history of our brigade was changed forever one year ago. This has been the biggest event in our history but as a brigade we have stuck together and will continue to work together into the future.
