The special episode titled ‘FIGHTING FIRE!’ is the first episode for the 2010 series, and is being aired to mark the one year anniversary of the Black Saturday bushfires.
The program promises to tackle the subject of bushfires head on with a special showcase of inventions which they predict could change the way we approach bushfire, and CFA’s Engineer and Manager, Fleet Infrastructure Robert Rankin features prominently.
Tonight, 03 February 2010, you can see Robert talk the panel through the development of the Light Concept Tanker.
Designed to get crews into and out of areas that are not accessible to heavier trucks, and incorporating the latest automated firefighting systems and crew protection technology, the Light Concept Tanker allows firefighters to fight fires from inside the cabin of the truck while it is moving.
Television reviewer Michael Lallo previewed the program in last week's Green Guide, talking up the special episode up as very entertaining and making special mention of the demonstration testing the Light Concept Tanker’s resistance to fire.
The New Inventors appears each week on ABC1, featuring inventors, innovators and designers showing off their latest designs to a panel of judges.
