The Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority is working with communities and local councils to support and help coordinate local commemorative events around the anniversary of 7 February.

Funds have been set aside from the Bushfire Appeal Fund to assist communities in holding local events and further funds to assist with summer activities to unite and support communities.

An ecumenical service will be held at St Paul’s Cathedral in Melbourne for bushfire-affected people living outside their communities and for members of the general public who may want to attend. St Paul’s bells will chime prior to the midday service and other churches across the state will be encouraged to do the same.

The St Paul’s service may be televised.

All other events are being kept locally, with an emphasis on communities doing what they want to do on the day. CFA members are encouraged to get involved with these events when they are invited to do so.

Updates and further information about the day will be provided in the coming weeks.
