CFA Gets Into Action

There will be an unprecedented number of Fire Ready meetings across the State for Fire Action Week - from Woodend to Wannon, Stawell to Kangaroo Flat, at local markets, fetes and in community halls.

CFA is also working with Bunnings, to host CFA and MFB Fire Ready presenters in all stores across the state at 11:00am on Sunday, 11 October.

On Thursday, 15 October ABC radio will join in on the action and host a state-wide fire awareness broadcast. The broadcast will include advice to residents on preparing their home and local CFA staff interviewed across the state.

Adding to these efforts, there will be a number of fire expos across the state, including the Great Ocean Road Fire Expo and the Southern Mitchell Fire Expo.

The Great Ocean Road Fire Expo in Lavers Hill will be officially opened by Ms Christine Nixon, APM Chair of the Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction & Recovery Authority.

In Kilmore, volunteers have been working with local businesses and agencies such as VicRoads, Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE), the Mitchell Shire Council and Department of Primary Industries (DPI) who exhibit at the Southern Mitchell Fire Expo.

“The idea of the Expo is to provide residents and land holders with a ‘one-stop shop’ for all their fire preparedness needs and questions regarding how they can help both themselves and the fire brigade by being as ready as possible,” said brigade captain, Greg Murphy.

“After seeing first-hand the devastating impact that bushfires can have, the brigade, like the whole of CFA, is determined to ensure the community is prepared for what is shaping up to be another extreme fire season,” he said.
