CFA CONNECT FAQs

Q: What is CFA Connect?

A: CFA Connect is CFA’s news, multimedia and social networking site. It allows members to write and publish their own stories, comment on one another's articles and upload photographs and video. All this content is shared across the CFA community and with the wider public. CFA members can also discuss CFA related issues in a private, CFA member only forum.

Q: How do I register an account with CFA Connect?

A: You can register with CFA Connect by clicking on the Register link located on the top right-hand corner of the CFA Connect front page. You must also read and agree to the Terms and Conditions of Use before your account can be created. If you are not a CFA Member, you can still register after being approved by a site admin.

Once your account is successfully created, you will receive a notification email to the email address you used when registering your account. The email will contain an activation link - you must click on this link to activate your CFA Connect account. Once your account is activated you can log in to CFA Connect with the user name and password you have selected.

Q: I haven't received the notification email required to activate my CFA Connect account.

A: If you are using a web-based email service like Hotmail, Yahoo or Google, there is a chance that the email may have been considered spam/junk. Please check your spam folder. You should categorise emails from CFA Connect as 'safe', so that they will land in your inbox in the future.

If you have done this and there is no email from CFA Connect in any mail folder, please contact the site administrators at the Registration and Login area of the Tech Support forum.

Q: How can I edit my CFA Connect account details?

A: After logging in to CFA Connect, you can edit your account details by clicking on the My Account Details link located in the red box on the top left-hand corner of the CFA Connect front page. You can also access your account details via the "Edit My Account" button on the Control Panel. The Control Panel appears on the right-hand side of the screen after you log in.

Q: I have lost/forgotten my password.

A: If you have lost or forgotten your password, click on the Lost Password? link located on the in the red box on the top left-hand corner of the CFA Connect front page. Enter your email address you used when registering for an account. A new password will be emailed to you.

You can change this password if you wish by going to the "My Account Details" page. (see FAQ about editing your CFA Connect account details above)

Q: Why do I have to select a region and how do I do it?

A: It is not compulsory to select a region, however selecting the region you're located in will give you access to the local news for that area. You can do this by selecting your region from the dropdown box at the top of the page. If you're not sure of which region you belong to, you can find your region by clicking on the ‘Find my Region' icon and selecting your region from the map of Victoria displayed on the page.

Q: How can I see news from other regions?

A: You can access news from regions other than your own using the dropdown box in the (News from Other Regions) Region Select module on the right-hand side of the screen. Doing this will not de-select you from the Region you are currently in.

Q: How do I post a news article?

Q: Do my videos go live straightaway?

A: No, any video you upload will remain private until a site administrator makes it live.

Blog

Q: What is a blog?

A: Derived from the term weblog, a blog enables the average internet user to publish their own content easilly. Many people use blogs to provide commentary or news on a particular subject; while others used them as personal online diaries.

Q: How can I get my own blog?

A: In the Blogs section of CFA Connect, click on the Request Your Own Blog link to send an email to a site administrator. You can enter a short description of your blog in the email. A site administrator will be in touch shortly to let you know if your request has been successful.

Q: How do I post a blog entry?

A: On the CFA Connect Blogosphere, click on the My Account link, found at the top of the page. Here you can write a new entry, or edit existing blog entries you have written. "My Account" also lets you edit your blog preferences and statistics as well as to view any comments made on your entries.

Forum

Q: What is a forum?

A: A forum is a place where discussions on various topics take place. The forum application used on CFA Connect is called Fireboard. You can post a new topic of discussion, or contribute to an ongoing conversation. Participating in a forum means being a part of an online community, and like any community members agree to abide by a code of conduct. In this environment this would cover user conduct and behaviour towards other users, inappropriate and offensive posts, profanity and obscenity.

Q: How do I reply to a forum post on Fireboard?

A: You can reply to a forum post by hitting the Reply or Quick Reply buttons at the bottom of the relevant post. The Quick Reply button, as its name suggests, is a fast and easy way to reply to a forum post - a box appears beneath the post and you simply type your reply in.

The Reply button displays more features than the Quick Reply function - here you can use the smiley buttons and HTML code, change the subject line and preview your post before submitting. However, you can still use the smiley buttons and HTML code in Quick Reply, even if they are not displayed.

The Quote button lets you quote a certain post in your reply. The quoted text will appear above your own in the forum.

Q: How do I start a new thread?

A: To start a new thread or discussion in the forum, click on the New Thread button at the bottom of the list of threads for that particular topic. Other users can then join the discussion by replying to your initial post.

Q: How can I keep track of discussions taking place in the forum?

A: You can keep track of discussions by subscribing to the forum thread you are following. You can do this using the Subscribe button at the top of each thread. Whenever a new post is made on the thread, you will receive an email notification to the email address you provided when registering a CFA Connect account.

Q: How do I edit my Fireboard profile?

A: After logging in, you can edit your Fireboard profile via the My Profile link found in the grey box at the top of the forum page. Here you can change your details, edit your preferred settings (like your signature), access your posts and the posts you are subscribed to, as well as the Private Message function.

Q: What is an avatar and how can I get one?

A: An avatar is your ‘virtual likeness', an online representation of yourself - be it a picture or drawing. You can upload an avatar to Fireboard using an existing image on your computer.

Q: How do I report posts that are inappropriate or offensive in nature?

A: You can report inappropriate or offensive posts to the forum moderators by clicking on the Report to Moderator link that is found on the bottom right-hand side of every forum post. The forum moderators will then decide on the appropriate course of action.

Q: Where can I access the Terms and Conditions of Use for CFA Connect?

A: CFA Connect is a platform for open communications, where its members agree to abide by the Terms and Conditions of Use for the site. You are required to read, understand and agree to these Terms and Conditions when registering an account. You can also access the Terms and Conditions of Use via the footer links on the CFA Connect website.

Q: What is CFA Connect's privacy policy?

A: CFA Connect's privacy policy is outlined in the Terms and Conditions of Use for CFA Connect. It complies with CFA's privacy policy as outlined on the CFA website.

Q: How do you handle inappropriate, abusive or offensive conduct on CFA Connect?

A: CFA Connect members agree to abide by the Terms and Conditions of Use. Any breaches of these terms and conditions can result in post or thread deletion, and continued breaches can result in a user's account being suspended temporarily or banned permanently.

Q: How do I get in touch with CFA Connect adminstrators?

A: You can email admin@cfaconnect.net.au or post a message in a relevant section of the forum.

Q: How do I submit feedback about CFA Connect?

A: You can post your comments and feedback on CFA Connect in the Feedback section of the forum. You must be a registered member.
