			<description>This is the right move. Everything needs to be focussed at supporting the firefighter on the ground and decentralise and localise decision making as much as possible.  Incident Controllers cannot put out fires from their ICC - the best they can do is to provide resources, support and information to those on the fire line.  It also needs to be recognised that ICs will always be working from old and incomplete information - the people in the best position to see what is happening and respond to it are the sector commanders, STLs, CLs and crew on the ground.

My workplace also put a number of initiatives in place to remind the organisation about what we are all about, to great effect.  Putting firefighters at the top of the organisation chart, while symbolic, is a very powerful message.  Other examples include changing the moniker &quot;head office&quot; to &quot;store support centre&quot; - better describing what the head office folks are really there to do. - Geoff Schmidt</description>

			<description>Firstly roll it out to those in the head shed - the ones that request we organise a strike team for flood recovery, and then when we have it organised, tell us we're not needed ! 

A fire might change it's dynamics (and needs) pretty quickly, and so might a flash flood - but not a slowly receding flood ! - Allan Layton</description>

			<title>+1 from the pointy end</title>

			<description>We have been fortunate down at Peninsula Group to have had the Chief attend a recent group meeting. During his discussions with those present he put forward his &quot;Mission Command&quot; philosophy for CFA. For those of us who are a little longer in the tooth, there was lots of head nodding, a few wry smiles and plenty of interest. For the newer members present there was intense interest and a look akin to &quot;so that’s how it works&quot;. I try not to be to pessimistic, but hope that the “system” doesn’t dilute or destroy what has the potential to enable a paradigm shift  and that there  is that fundamental &quot;Philosophical&quot; change if not in my time, then in the future of those who are just starting out in the great CFA journey. 			<description>A &quot;fresh approach&quot; . . . maybe, but it seems to me that Mission Command is  a welcome return to the Command &amp; Control that worked so well before we centralised the decision making processes.
