I would like to share with you an update of some of our recent achievements under the Bushfires Program:
Volunteer Identification Program
Operational volunteers will receive a ‘vehicle identification sticker’ to place on car windscreens to improve access past Traffic Management Points. The stickers will assist volunteers in being easily identifiable and support them in doing their job. This project is in response to recommendation 19 of the Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission Report and will be implemented for this fire season. Stickers are also being developed for private equipment that meets CFA guidelines and will be used during bushfires to support fire fighting efforts.
Neighbourhood Safer Places
Firstly, I'd like to acknowledge the enormous effort put in place by our people to assess Neighbourhood Safer Places (NSPs), with some great outcomes. Since 24 December 2009, a total of 40 NSPs were designated, with 243 sites assessed by CFA. Today, 135 NSPs have been designated with 694 sites assessed by CFA. In addition, 40 sites have been reassessed.
Many people across our organisation have been working to deliver on projects for this year’s Bushfires Program. A considerable amount of work is required to act on the changes for this fire season 2010-11 and I’d like to commend everyone for their fantastic work.
