Update on the Regional Radio Dispatch Service

Mick Bourke Published in EquipmentCFA by Mick Bourke
I'm pleased to provide an update on the Regional Radio Dispatch Service project that will improve radio communications for our regional brigades.

The CFA Board has given approval for negotiations to begin with a preferred supplier to finalise the service contract. Depending on these negotiations, the project should roll out towards the middle of the year and into early next year, beginning with a pilot in District 12. We will announce the winning tenderer as soon as the negotiations are completed.

This is an exciting project because, through technology and training, every brigade will have access to reliable and robust radio communications. Brigades can deal directly with emergency call centre operators throughout incident dispatch, which will reduce the risk of communication failures and improve safety for both our members and the public.

Our regional dispatch radio network will be upgraded from analogue to digital, giving a whole new level of clarity to our radio communications. As part of this project, CFA firefighters will be given training and support to use the upgraded dispatch communication functions.

Enabling high quality direct communication between firefighters on the fireground and centralised dispatch operators is just one example of how CFA is reducing time-consuming activities.

This project is part of our vision of One CFA and working smarter.

I will keep you informed as we continue through the negotiation process and look forward to the roll-out of the project.

If you have any questions about the Regional Radio Dispatch Service project please contact your District Office, or contact Tenia Vergos on (03) 9262 8277 or rds@cfa.vic.gov.au
